The Pekin Hen Den!
We adore Pekin Bantams at Cottage Poultry! They enjoy exploring the garden, searching for goodies and their next favourite dust bathing spot.
Pekins come from the Bantam, a small version of a traditional laying chicken. Due to their small size and their world renowned feathered feet, they have little negative impact to a garden.

A Pekin Bantam are of a small compact nature almost looking like a pom pom; with large rounded tail feathers. They have a low centre of gravity so you cannot see their feet as they are hidden behind their stunning foot feathering and skirt.
We offer a large variety of Pekin colours and we take particular pleasure in breeding some of the more unusual non-standard colours.

Pekin's come in many different colours.
We breed the following:
-
Millefleur
-
Blue Millefleur

A group of Hens are happy to be kept together. If you wish to keep a Pekin cockerel, who are relatively quiet and typically friendly characters, he will need between 2-5 hens to keep him happy.

Pekin's ideally need a grass run that can be moved around each day, enabling fresh grazing.
They need a safe, clean and secure house to sleep in over night and you could keep Pekin's inside, in fresh shavings. If you choose to keep them inside, they will need time each day, to explore the garden and find critters to supplement their diet.

It's highly recommended to worm Pekins at least twice a year using Flubenvet. In summer you should regularly check for Red Mites, to avoid any serious problems. Chickens can be susceptible to more diseases than Ducks, however if they are kept in the right conditions they tend to be hardy.

Pekins are good layers and should begin laying eggs in December and usually finish mid-September. They lay small-medium sized eggs that make the perfect poached eggs!
